How to Winterize Your Vehicle

How to Winterize Your Vehicle

Driving during the winter means more than just turning up the heat and slowing down. It also means prepping your car for cold temperatures and harsh conditions. Winterize your vehicle at Valley Nissan of Longmont to stay safe on the roads this season.

Winter Weather Prep for Your Vehicle

Here are several steps to take in order to prep your vehicle for winter driving.

  • Check your tires. Your tires need sufficient tread in order to maintain traction on slick winter roads. If you live in an especially snowy environment, you may want to even consider changing to snow tires for the winter.
  • Top off with antifreeze. You just got through a summer of running your air conditioner, so you may need to top off your level of antifreeze for the winter. Antifreeze keeps the liquids in your engine from freezing under extreme temperatures.
  • Test your battery. Batteries are more likely to fail in cold weather, so have your battery tested and replaced if needed.
  • Change your oil. It’s wise to change to a thinner oil during the winter time as it has an easier time flowing through your engine and providing the proper lubrication.
